About Angie Madrid

Ever since I was a little girl, I felt a strong connection to dance. I’ve always loved music, especially Salsa, and I loved that there was always something playing around every corner of the city. I grew up surrounded by Latin culture and influenced by the richness of Colombian music.

My journey as a dancer has been a beautiful one. My first steps were simply for fun, dancing with friends and family when I was a child. Years later, while I was at university, that spark came back to life. I started looking for dance classes in the city and found Social Club, a place that would eventually become my second home and where, proudly, I am now a teacher. I started with group classes, then took private lessons to improve my technique and joined salsa and bachata teams, performing in shows and competitions. It was years of practice, dedication, and hard work that led to some incredible experiences.

But what truly shaped my path was the day someone asked me to teach them how to dance, simply because they liked the way I danced. From that first class—without any teaching experience, but with all the passion in the world—I discovered that teaching was another way to love dance.

Over time, new opportunities came my way. I started working at a dance academy, where most of my students were foreigners looking to experience an authentic taste of Latin culture. That’s where my approach began to take shape: creating personalized, welcoming, and memorable classes for travelers who want to connect with the rhythm of Medellín.

Since then, I’ve taught at different dance academies throughout the city and have worked with hundreds of students from different countries, helping them discover that dance is so much more than steps—it’s culture, connection, and emotion.

My teaching style is rooted in empathy. I don’t just want you to learn how to dance; I want you to feel comfortable, present, and proud of every step you take. It means so much to me when a student tells me I was their first dance teacher, that I helped them overcome their fears, or that I inspired them to keep dancing when they returned home. Those moments are my greatest reward.

I believe dancing can also be a form of therapy. My classes, held at your location in Medellín or at rented dance spaces, are a chance to connect, let go, and enjoy the process. Because at the end of the day, dance isn’t about doing it perfectly… it’s about doing it with your heart.

I’ve been part of different events throughout Colombia, where I’ve had the opportunity to learn from some of the most respected Salsa and Bachata figures in the world.
